Here in Montana, we are definitely in the heart of beef country and with that comes a certain quality.  A quality you take for granted.  There have been a couple of instances where I have had the good fortune of visiting a couple of higher-end steakhouses in big cities and have usually walked away thinking "it's good, but not as good as back home".  Now I'm not saying by any means that these weren't delicious steaks.  I'm just saying that some of the best steaks in the world can be found right here in Butte.  Here are a few places that I believe have the best steaks in town.  In fact, I'll put any one of these four places up against anyone in the world.

THE DERBY - 2016 HARRISON

The Derby's steaks are just incredible.  They hand cut their steaks daily right down to the meat they use for their hamburgers.  Which are also incredible.  But when you go to the Derby, you MUST try their Filet Mignon which is a favorite of many.  Get the big one.  Hell, get two. They're that good.

CASAGRANDA'S STEAKHOUSE - 801 S. UTAH

Casagranda's is right in the heart of the old Warehouse District and, in fact, is the beautifully restored Bertoglio Warehouse.  Its decor brings back memories of the old days and the place is gaining a reputation for their weekly Sushi Night.  But you'll want to try one of their steaks.  The filet at Casagranda's is also incredible, especially when you order it Oscar Style.

LYDIA'S SUPPER CLUB - 4915 HARRISON AVENUE

Lydia's is truly an experience and their lush decor and stained-glass windows along with their incredible pasta and chicken dishes practically bring you back to Meaderville.  But you need to try one of their steaks and the king of them all is Lydia's Porterhouse, served while it's still sizzling.

MONTANA'S RIB AND CHOP HOUSE - 4655 HARRISON AVENUE

Even though they have "rib' and "chop" right there in their name, the Rib and Chop House has some incredible steaks.  I don't know the science behind it but I do know that they cook their steaks at a ridiculous temperature and the results are simply incredible.  Here, again, I would suggest trying the filet.

WHO ARE WE MISSING?

I know this list is by no means complete as you're going to find great steaks in most of Butte's restaurants.  The M&M has an incredible Thursday Night Tenderloin special that is out of this world.  But then again, most things at the M&M are.  The Hanging Five gets their meat locally and also has some delicious steaks. And also what I believe are the best omelettes in town, but that's for another day.  Who did I miss?  Let me know in the comments.
