There is no rest for the wicked.

After a busy weekend for the Bulldogs, they get right back after it on Tuesday against Missoula Hellgate. The boys will stay at home, and unfortunately, the girls are back on the road…again.

The Bulldogs boys (3-2 overall, 2-0 conference) are coming off an outstanding start to Western AA play, with wins over Glacier and Flathead this past weekend. Butte High showed a lot of character in those wins and gave us an idea of how good this team could be, with major contributions from the starters and the bench.

After the weekend Butte High is led by freshman Hudson Luedtke scoring 15 points a game, Jace Stenson is averaging 9, Jonas Sherman 8, and after a big weekend, Cameron Gurnsey jumped his average to 9 points a game.

The Knights come to town 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Western AA play. Hellgate beat Capital at home on Thursday night 50-41 and fell to Helena High 61-57 on Saturday in Helena.

The Knights started their Conference season with a resounding 63-43 win over Capital. Connor Dick led Hellgate with 19, Easton Sant right behind with 15.

Against Helena High, Hellgate was up 21-12 at the half and the Bengals were able to storm back and take down Hellgate 61-57. Sant again had a big game for Hellgate scoring 25 of their 57.

Hellgate has three guys averaging in double figures, Easton Sant at 15, Connor Dick at 14, and Chance McNulty at 10 points a game.

This will be another big test for the Bulldogs, and hopefully, they will have a full gym behind them. 7 pm scheduled start at Ross Richardson.

The Butte High girls are back on the bus once again. (The ladies only have 3 home games in the month of January) Silver lining?, The ladies will have a big chunk of home games when we go through the second round of conference games.

The Bulldogs went 0-2 in Kalispell this past weekend, falling 48-36 to Glacier on Friday, and 39-36 to Flathead on Saturday. Butte High had some great chances in both games and showed heart in tough environments. Payton Clary played well at Glacier, pacing the Dogs with 8 points. Laura Rosenleaf battled in the block all weekend.

The Knights on the ladies’ side entered conference play at 1-2, with a win over Billings Senior, and losses to Billings West, and Belgrade. They quickly went to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play with strong wins over the Helena schools. Downing Capital 50-44 on Thursday, and Helena High 44-30 on Saturday.

Entering the weekend Hellgate was led in scoring by 6’6” post Alex Covill and 5’11” forward Chloe Larsen at 16 and 14 points respectively, and both had big weekends. Covill with 21 against Capital, and 14 against Helena, Larsen with 18 vs. Capital, and 7 against Helena.

Hellgate is huge, with three 6+ footers on the roster, they are a tall task for any team to handle. Best of luck to coach Arnston and the ladies as they get back on the bus tomorrow for a 7:15 pm scheduled start in Missoula.
