Skijoring the Big Rock Feb. 11 and 12 in Boulder

The Jefferson County Rodeo Association in conjuntion with the Boulder Valley Skijoring Association are excited to be bringing Skijoring the Big Rock back to Boulder for its second year.  Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12 are the dates of the competition with registration on Friday at the Windsor Bar.  Skijoring the Big Rock is being held to promote the wonderful town of Boulder, Montana, it's businesses and community, and to raise money for the Boulder School System.

Okay, first of all, what in the world is skijoring?  Imagine waterskiing on snow.  Isn't that snow skiing?  Well, you're going to be using a tow rope, the same as you'd find on a motorboat, but in place of your watercraft you find your trusty steed.  So, it's more like boatless, dry waterskiing on snow but with a horse.  Sound fun?  There are different skill classifications as well as different ways for competitors to earn time bonuses.  Complete rules are up on the Skijoring the Big Rock Facebook page as well as information on how to get entered.

Skijoring is just as much fun to watch, too.  Races will begin at approximately 11:30 both days at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, admission is only five bucks and kids 5 and under are admitted free of charge.  Saturday night there will also be a Calcutta from 6 to 9pm at Dave's 32 oz Bar and the awards ceremony will also be held at Dave's Sunday from 6 to 7pm.  If you would like further information on the event, just send an email to skioringthebigrock@gmail.com.
