Brown Bag Lunch: Ciara Pares Kempf - Ruby Garrett

Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives (224 W. Park, Butte, MT 59701); 12:00 PM

Event Description:

"The colorful life of Butte's famous madam has been mythologized and embellished for decades. Ruby Garrett was forced into prostitution as a minor, survived abusive husbands (and murdered one), became the owner of Butte's last and longest-operating brothel, and served prison time for tax evasion. But friends knew her as a fun-loving traveler and a grandmotherly do-gooder, and her reputation as a good neighbor stretched from Butte to Divide on the Big Hole, where she retired. We'll look at the facts-- and the myths-- of the remarkable life of this true Butte character.” – Ciara Pares Kempf
The Brown Bag presentation will begin at noon on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024, and will last about an hour. The presentation will be held in the auditorium at the Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives located at 17 W. Quartz Street. Guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Coffee and water will be provided."
