Big changes are coming to Bozeman.

One of the fastest-growing cities in the country has seen a lot of change over the last 10 years or so, and depending on who you ask, that is either a good thing or a bad one. While Bozeman doesn't really have a "bad" side of town, some areas are a little more modern than others.

A couple of examples: The Cannary area and the Gallatin Crossing. Both have seen new life and new construction as they grow into the 21st century, and now, another area in Bozeman is about to have a fresh start.

For years, the old K-Mart area off of 7th and Oak has just kind of been a bit of a bare wasteland. Sure, there are a few businesses around the area, but the parking lot and the grounds haven't seen any love in some time.

Well, that's about to change.

According to KBZK, groundbreaking will take place in 2026. So, what is the name of the new project, and what will it entail? The project will be named Bozeman Square, and the multi-use development will span 31 acres when it's all said and done. If you're wondering how many square feet of building that is, it's over 1 million.

What does Bozeman Square include?

Bozeman Square will have something for everyone. There will be retail space for shopping and dining, as well as space for residential living, arts, and entertainment. There is also talk of a convention center along with additional lodging.

Ok, so you're wondering, how long is all of this going to take, right?

According to those in charge, it will take between 5 and 10 years to complete the entire project; however, the groundbreaking that will take place next year is for Phase 1, which will include retail space, plus around 200 affordable housing units. The project is headed by I.J. Barkan Inc. in partnership with Bryan Beauchamp and Sebastian Guilhemontania, along with the local engineering firm Cushing Terrell

So, what do you think? Is this a good or bad thing for Bozeman?

I think it's fantastic news. Bozeman's midtown area needs a facelift, and with the recent additions of buildings like The Elm and Aspen Crossing, this new project will do wonders for the area.
