We've seen a lot of headlines recently about all of the different stores that are closing across the country and here in Montana.

Some of these brands have been around for decades, and it truly is sad to see them go. As a child of the 80s, many of the retailers of my youth are no longer around. Stores like K-Mart, Sears, Montgomery Ward, and others are nothing but bittersweet memories.

Oh, and don't even get me started on all of the stores that were in Malls across the U.S. that are no longer around.

As times change, so do our retail habits. Once, popular brands have been replaced by online shopping. As a kid, I could go to music stores and spend hours looking at all of the different CDs, t-shirts, and posters. Now, you "download" your favorite songs.

One of the most iconic brands out there recently announced it will be shutting down 150 locations across the United States. You can't think of retail in America and not think of Macy's. The retail giant has been part of the fabric of this country since 1858.

Most of us are familiar with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and of course, there are references to the store in the Christmas Classic "Miracle on 34th Street." However, the business has been eliminating brick-and-mortar buildings for years, and that trend is continuing with the latest list of closures.

Is Macy's closing in Montana?

But what about Montana? Will Big Sky Country be affected?

Currently, Macy's only has one location in Montana, and that's in the Gallatin Valley Mall in Bozeman. There are no plans to close the store here in Bozeman, which comes as a relief to many locals as they feel that there aren't a ton of options when it comes to stores that carry all that Macy's does.
