We talk a lot about food here in Montana.

From old school diners to 5-Star restaurants, there's something for everyone here in Big Sky Country. However, according to one source, Montana ranks near the bottom when it comes to great cuisine.

The folks over at Talker Research decided to look into all 50 states and rank them when it comes to their quality of cuisine and it seems that the Treasure State isn't a place where you can find great food. In fact, Montana along with states like Utah, the Dakota's, Nebraska, and Wyoming are all ranked towards the worst.

It seems that those in charge decided to check out each state and what was best to eat. So, when it comes to Montana, other than huckleberries, which foods made the list?

What kind of food is Montana known for?

It won't be a surprise to find out that the Top 3 foods in Montana are:

  • Steak
  • Wild Game
  • Huckleberries

Well, that makes sense. We have more cows than people, tons of people hunt here, and it seems that you can't visit Montana without buying something with huckleberry in it.

For those who are curious, steak was also the top choice for our friends over in Wyoming. In South Dakota it was Fry Bread, and North Dakota didn't even have a food that made the list.

If you're wondering which state came in first, it might not be a shock to hear that it was California. So, what claim to fame does California have? Their list includes:

  • Mexican Food
  • Burgers
  • Shrimp Tacos

I get two of the three, but burgers? I'm calling BS on that. As someone who has had my share of burgers, I will go with a burger from the cattle states any day.
