Montana’s Most Viral Spot: Why This Off-Grid Town Is So Popular
We've all heard of "going viral". But what does it really mean? According to AI, when something or someone goes viral, the following happens:
"a video, image, or story—rapidly and widely spreads across the internet through social media, email, and other platforms, reaching a massive audience in a short amount of time"
In my line of work, going viral is a good thing. Anytime you can get your content in front of a bunch of people means that you grow your audience, and that, my friends, is Branding 101.

There's a lot of Montana content that has gone viral. From Grizzly Bears to National Parks, Montana is full of interesting information that, for whatever reason, seems to intrigue folks.
I mean, it makes sense. Montana has more cows than people, and according to one source, there are more Ghost Towns in Big Sky Country than real towns (I'm not really sure on that one)
Now, when it comes to doing content, they say you should stick to what you know, so what do I know? Well, I know food. I'm not only a foodie, but I'm also a fat guy. Here in Montana, we have tons of viral-worthy food places, but when it comes to the top spot, one stands out above the rest.
What's the most viral food from Montana?
What if I told you that the most viral food spot in the entire state is in a town of 49 people?
Oh, and they don't have electricity or cell coverage. Yep, you read that right. The most viral food spot in Montana is an off-the-grid town just outside of Glacier National Park. However, they serve some of the most delicious bakery items anywhere in the United States and are known for their Huckleberry Bear Claws.
Polebridge Mercantile was built in 1914 and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The General Store/Bakery is located just a mile away from Glacier National Park. Because there is no electricity in the town, everything at the store is run by either solar or a generator.
The irony is incredible. The most viral food place in Montana doesn't have electricity, cell service, or wi-fi. Heck, they don't even have a pay phone.
It should be mentioned that Polebridge Mercantile is only open for part of the year (April 1st-Oct 31st) so if you are planning to make the trek, keep that in mind. Also, the road to the store isn't always the best, so the weather will play a significant role in your trip.
