While the tallest building in Montana is the First Interstate Center in Billings (272 feet), did you know that Montana is also home to the tallest load-bearing brick building in the world?

According to the folks on the internet, they say that the tallest load-bearing brick building is located in Chicago. The Monadnock Building stands at 215 feet and was built in the early 1890s. However, according to one Tik Tocker from Billings, there's another load-bearing brick building here in Big Sky Country that beats it.

Which Montana building is the world's tallest load-bearing brick building?
A Montana native, Mary Kate Teske is on TikTok and does a lot of content about the city of Billings. In one of her videos, she points out the fact that the tallest load-bearing brick building isn't in Chicago, but in Montana. Specifically the city of Billings.
The building?
The Double Tree in downtown Billings. The building, which has undergone a name chance or two over the years stands at a whopping 245 feet, which as you know is taller than the 215 feet of the Monadnock Building in The Windy City.
The Double Tree is not only a hotel, but the home of different businesses as well. Construction started back in 1979 and was completed in 1980. For a time it was the tallest building in the state until the completion of the Interstate Bank Center.
The Double Tree has 22 above-ground floors and it took well over 2 million bricks to complete. It was declared "the tallest load-bearing brick building in the world" by the Brick Institue of America.

Interestingly enough, not only are both the Interstate Bank Center and the Double Tree the tallest buildings in Montana, but they're also the tallest buildings in the Northern Rocky Region.
