The entire state of Montana finds itself in the grips of a severe winter storm. Much, if not all of the state is below zero this morning with the Great Falls area facing the worst of it currently. Great Falls is showing -20, southeast of Great Falls there are readings of -27, and to the Southwest Logan Pass is currently at -28.

We are below zero in the Butte area this morning, and it will stay there all day. We are expecting to be near -16 by 5 pm this evening, and then continuing to drop to a low of -40 degrees in Butte.
Thursday our ‘high’ temperature will be -16, with windchill readings as low as -47 degrees. Thursday night we will be down to -31, and windchill readings down to -44.
Friday we will actually be above zero! 17 is our expected high.

Beyond the frigid temperatures, we have also seen quite a bit of snow so far with this storm. The roads around Montana, and especially Butte, are not good. This is a look at the current highway conditions from the Montana Dept of Transportation.

The roads in red are severe driving conditions. I-15 north out of Butte, Elk Park through Basin, Boulder, and Boulder Hill, all Severe conditions, there is currently a semi stopped in the road, southbound on Boulder Hill.
I-15 south out of Butte, from Feely through Divide to Glen, is severe driving conditions.
I-90 East- Homestake Pass has a chain requirement for towing units, Cardwell Hill is Severe Driving conditions, with a chain requirement for towing units as well.
I-90 West, from the Anaconda exit through Deer Lodge, nearly to Gold Creek is Severe driving conditions.
