If there's one thing that makes folks here in Montana cringe, it's when someone mispronounces one of our town's names, especially if we're from that particular town.
Butte has always been known for extravagant decorations, especially around Christmastime. We've talked about the mine headframes and the lengths that the miners would go to in order to have the best-lit frame on the hill. There's the historic Meaderville light display that we now get to enjoy every season at the ice-skating rink behind the Racetrack Volunteer Fire Department Hall. And, of course, every year there are exquisite residential light displays that add an extra few watts every winter to Butte's already glowing night shine. But for the past couple of years there has been one particular display here in Butte that is definitely worth checking out.
This Saturday, the Spirit of Columbia Gardens Carousel will have Santa Claus on hand to greet Butte's children and get their wish lists from noon to 3 and the entire family is invited. The Carousel will be running, and the gift shop will be open and is a great place to find Butte-related items that are perfect for out-of-town friends and family members. Their Butte-centric gifts and souvenirs can truly offer unique gifts, even for those who are hard to shop for.
With Harrison Ford sightings all over town over the last week or so and production crews set up in front of Butte's Front Street Station, it's really no secret that the "Yellowstone" television series prequel, "1923" is hard at work here in the Mining City.
With the recent groundbreaking of the Cornerstone Plaza and the announcement of all of the new stores and restaurants that are potentially coming to Butte, excitement has certainly been buzzing around town. Officials and developers are touting the possible arrival of a Planet Fitness exercise center, a new Starbucks, a Chipotle restaurant and a Chick Fil A franchise to throw out a few names.
