What many may not know is that Murphy's charitable work as the leader of the "Connecting for the Cancer Cure" golf tournament has lasted as long as her seat at the end of the Maroons bench. While trophies are not won for fundraisers, Murphy's annual event would be nothing less than a dynasty and the good that has come out of the last 17 years may be even more important than her state championships. Over those years, Connecting for the Cancer Cure has raised over $240,000 to help the St. James Cancer Center and their patients.

The 17th Annual "Connecting for the Cancer Cure" charity golf scramble and cornhole tournament is set for Saturday, September 14th. Over the last 16 years, this fundraiser has raised over $200,000 for the St. James Cancer Center and its patients and created the first ever Cancer Center Endowment Fund at St. James. The fundraiser has helped create a consultation room for patient privacy, it has helped kickstart Southwest Montana's only lymphedema program, has helped to bring mobile mammography to Southwest Montana and has helped countless cancer patients in their time of need.
