The road to the State Tournament in Missoula starts in Butte this Thursday as the Western AA Divisional Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament gets underway, and the Butte High boys fully expect to be one of the four teams advancing to the State AA tournament the following week in Missoula. And with good reason. The Dogs are coming in red-hot, riding a six-game winning streak and winners of 7 of their last 8 games. Butte High's Rueso Batterman caught a pass from Hudson Luedtke with under five seconds to play, and as had been his specialty all evening, he found a man open under the bucket. That man was Dylan "Bobby" Bache whose layup off the backboard fell through as the horn sounded and forced overtime against the Missoula Big Sky Eagles in Ross J. Richardson Memorial Gymnasium Friday evening in a Western AA boys basketball contest. From there, it was all Butte. The Bulldogs outscored the Eagles 9-2 in the extra stanza and came away with a 72-63 win that saw big runs by both teams throughout the game.

The Butte High Bulldogs got a split against the Glacier High Wolfpack from Kalispell, MT on Tuesday with the girls getting nipped by 2 and the boys erasing a double-digit deficit to come away with a Western AA victory.

Butte High boys basketball team triumphs over Missoula Sentinel with a score of 62-54.

The Butte High boys and girls both jumped out to big first quarter leads and both were able to weather the storm in sweeping the Flathead Braves Tuesday evening at the Butte Civic Center with the boys winning 63-54 and the girls holding on for a 57-51 victory.

The Bulldogs would cut the Hellgate lead to 6 at 47-41, but behind a bucket and a pair of free-throws from junior guard Chance McNulty, the Knights would extend their lead to 9 with 1:30 to play and ultimately hang on for a 56-43 win in the Western AA opener for both programs.

The Western AA conference portion of the Butte High boys' and girls' basketball seasons get underway Thursday as the Bulldogs will do battle with the Missoula Hellgate Knights.

It's never a dull game when the Dillon Beavers come to town and tonight should bring double the excitement as the Butte High Bulldogs host a girls/boys' doubleheader tonight at the Butte Civic Center.

Cameron Gurnsey's steal and breakaway dunk with 2:00 to play was part of a 9-0 Butte High 4th quarter run that was too much for Missoula Big Sky to weather as the Bulldogs beat the Eagles 87-78 Tuesday night at Ross J. Richardson Gymnasium on the campus of Butte High School.

Senior guard Dougie Peoples had 23 points for Butte Central and junior guard Jack Keeley came off the bench to add 21 as the Butte Central Maroons ran to a 76-47 win over crosstown rival Butte High Tuesday night at the Butte Civic Center.
