Staffing Changes Raise Questions For Great Falls Attraction

One of Great Falls’ most popular tourist attractions is facing an uncertain future.

Since opening in 1998, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center has welcomed visitors from around the world, telling the story of the Corps of Discovery and their journey through Montana. Now, according to a report from Montana Free Press, the center is preparing to lose all three of its full-time employees, raising questions about what comes next.

Major Renovation Still Planned For The Interpretive Center

The director, facilities manager, and education coordinator are all either retiring or leaving for other jobs.

While those positions are overseen by the U.S. Forest Service, there is currently no timeline for when or even if they'll be filled.

The good news is the interpretive center isn't going anywhere.

In fact, a major renovation is scheduled to begin this fall. The project will update exhibits and improve the building, while being funded through the Great American Outdoors Act, giving one of Great Falls' top tourist attractions a much-needed facelift.

Why The Lewis And Clark Interpretive Center Matters To Montana

Still, plenty of people are understandably wondering what happens once those renovations are complete.

Since it opened, the center has been a favorite stop for tourists, school groups, and locals wanting to learn more about one of the most important chapters in both Montana and American history.

Hopefully those staffing questions get answered sooner rather than later, because the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is more than just another museum. It's one of the places that tells Montana's story, and that's something worth preserving for future generations.
