Here’s what’s happening with water distribution efforts in Butte
We are a little over 24 hours since the announcement that there was a possibility of contamination in our municipal water system due to an error with pressurization at a hydrant at the Montana Resources, Inc. mine site here in Butte. In the time since, considerable efforts have been made by Montana Resources, Butte-Silver Bow and Harrington Pepsi Cola Bottling company to keep residents with a reliable supply of drinking water as free distribution of bottled water has been taking place at the Montana Resources office on Shields Avenue as well as at the Butte Civic Center.
Kudos to both Montana Resources and Butte-Silver Bow employees for their quick response and effective distribution efforts in getting so much water to so many as quickly as they did.
While residents and businesses south of Front Street here in Butte remain under a "Do Not Consume" order from the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, the demand for bottled water in the Mining City has become great. As of 5pm today (Thursday), supplies at both the Montana Resources office and Civic Center has been depleted. But officials say there is no need to worry.
Restocking efforts have begun and water distribution will resume tomorrow morning at the Montana Resources office beginning at 8am. Additional shipments of water to the Butte Civic Center are expected tomorrow as well.
