I don't know about you, but I love Montana State Football.

As the Cats get ready to battle North Dakota State for the National Championship on Monday, let's be honest, this has been one hell of a ride. Throw in the fact that this is the final game for Tommy Mellott and the Bobcats are one win away from perfection, well, this is the stuff legends are made of.

If the Cats come out of Frisco, Texas victorious not only would they be National Champs, but they would have been perfect in doing so. I mean, you couldn't write a better script.

We all remember what happened the last time these two teams met in Frisco. Mellott, then a freshman was injured early in the game and Bobcats fans were left wondering what "could have been".  This time, Touchdown Tommy is playing his last game as a Cat, and except for a few salty Griz fans, the entire state is cheering on the Montana native.

It's been a wild four years.

The boy from Butte will wear that number 4 jersey one last time to represent the state and school he loves. Oh, and he will do it as the Walter Camp FCS Player of the Year. Of course, Mellott isn't the only Bobcat with an award or two. Head Coach Brent Vigen was the winner of the Conference Coach of the Year and the Eddie Robinson Award recipient.

Speaking of Coach Vigen, let's not forget his history with the opponent. Not only did he play for NDSU, he was an assistant coach at the school for many years. In fact, he has a couple of National Championship rings from his time on the Bison staff.

However, this is different.  Not only is this game for the National Championship, it's also for perfection. One game away from the perfect season, something that has never been done in the history of Bobcat football. I'm reminded of the line from Remember The Titans when defensive end Julius Campell speaks up during halftime of the state championship game and says the following:

"With all due respect, you demanded perfection. Now, I ain't saying that I'm perfect, 'cause I'm not. And I ain't gonna never be. None of us are. But we have won every single game we have played till now. So this team is perfect."

When is the game and how can I watch or listen?

The game will air on ESPN on Monday night starting at 5 pm. For those looking for a more local feel with more hometown insight, you can also listen to the game on 100.7 XL Country or the XL Country App.

Perfection. Something that very few ever achieve, however, for the Montana State Bobcats, it's one game away.
