Opening Day’s have been announced
Mother nature has decided to gift us ski season a bit early this year. The first opening of the year will happen here in Southwest Montana at Discovery Sky Area. According to an Instagram post from Discovery Basin they will open this Friday.
Not all 2200 in-bounds acres of terrain will be open to start, but the early season opening will really get you primed for when the full mountain opens. Discovery is a staple for everyone in Southwest Montana, with three skiable faces, 8 lifts (5 triple chairs, 2 double chairs, and a surface) and the 2.5 acre terrain park, Discovery has terrain for everyone.
You can find the trail maps, webcams, and what terrain is open HERE.
All information regarding tickets, and passes can be found/purchased HERE.
Big Sky won’t be far behind as they announced they will be opening next Wednesday November 23, 2022.
“Thanks to more than five feet of early-season snow, sustained cold temps, and the incredible hard work of our team, we will be opening with more than 2,000 acres serviced from four charlifts and four surface lifts”
The initial four lifts are: Swift current 6, Explorer, Challenger, and Iron Horse, plus all Mountain Village carpets. The Ramcharger 8 will open on Thursday November 24th. Exact trails will be announced soon and can be found HERE.
Big Sky Resort is truly a world ski destination, boasting 38 lifts, accessing 322 trails spread over 5,851 skiable in-bounds acres.
Information on lift tickets for Big Sky can be found HERE.
So, Discovery and Big Sky are the first two out of the gate. I would have to expect we will see others follow suit shortly, and when they do make those announcements we will pass them along. Remember, the Farmers Almanac said we are going to have a snow filled winter (especially after the new year)
