The school year is well underway and with the beginning of each new year comes the day that, whether we like it or not, will define us for years and even generations to come.  It is school picture day.  And it is marvelous.

Preserving our youth

We don't see it at the time, but this snapshot of our young, daily lives is one of the few things from our youth that is preserved.  And to put it bluntly, some things don't age well.

In the lead photo, I'm the kid standing, second from the right whose haircut, as Panisko pointed out, looks like one of Dark Hemet's minions from Spaceballs.  Now, I will be the first to admit I was not an attractive child.  I had an aunt from the South who used to say "Bless his face".  The marks on my face are from other children touching me with 10-foot poles.  But I was the oldest of 4 children and you'd think as such my dear Mother would love me nonetheless and would be fully aware that it was picture day.  So why did she send me to school that day dressed in a velvet mumu?

I can't be alone

And I don't believe that I am alone.  And, at least in this picture, I'm not.  This shot contains future scientists and educators.  Future teachers and coaches.  And one mild-mannered radio morning show host.  Or two if you look closely at the next picture.  We want to see yours too.  Share with us on social media.
