The 2023 Symphony Under the Stars will take place July 15th on the campus of Carroll College in Helena.

Symphony Under the Stars is a Helena tradition that began in 2004. Each summer the Helena Symphony (which was founded in 1955) comes together to put on a magnificent show on the hill at Carroll College.

The event this year will feature the great Ladies of Jazz and will pay tribute to the women of jazz including: Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holliday, Judy Garland, and Ginger Rogers. Listen to an array of hits from the great songbook, including How High the Moon, I Got Rhythm, Summertime, Bewitched, and many more!

Each year the event draws nearly 20,000 people to the park to enjoy an evening of music and fireworks under the Montana Big Sky. The music begins at sundown, but spectators make a full day out of the event. Beginning mid-morning, attendees bring their blankets to the venue, staking out their seats for the evening, creating an ever-changing patchwork quilt that spans the hillside. Once the blankets and quilts are down, grills will come out -accompanied by beverages of course- and that starts what will be a great day.

If you are planning on heading to Helena and making it a full day, they have one additional ask. ( A pretty great one at that) They ask that if you are heading over to put your blanket down, and ‘reserve’ your spot, use canned, non-perishable food items to hold your blanket down. The food will then be gathered and donated to the Helena Food Share program. In past years the donations have reached over 17,000 pounds! It is one of the largest single donation days for the organization.

July 15th is the day. Carroll College is the place (behind the Carroll PE center). And the reason is the fantastic music of the Helena Symphony.
