Motorcycle enthusiasts, classic car owners and community supporters are invited to hit the road for a great cause later this month as the Southwest Montana Veterans Food Pantry & Services hosts its annual Poker Run and Community BBQ on Saturday, Aug. 22.
The day begins at the Veterans Food Pantry, 505 Main in Deer Lodge, with registration and the fist card draw starting at 9:30am. Participants will head out at 11am for a scenic ride featuring five stops and five chances to build a winning poker hand.
After the first draw in Deer Lodge, riders will continue to KettleHouse Brewing in Bonner, then Trixie's Saloon in Ovando, the Avon Cafe in Avon, before returning to the Tri-County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building in Deer Lodge for the final draw. All poker hands are $10 and must be turned in by 4pm, with winners announced at 4:30pm. Raffles and a 50/50 drawing will also be taking place througout the day.
Organizers emphasize that the event is not limited to motorcycles. Cars, trucks and hot rods are all welcome to participate in the fundraiser, making it an opportunity for anyone who enjoys a road trip to support local veterans.
The day's festivities will conclude with the organization's third annual community BBQ beginning at 5pm at the Exhibit Hall at the fairgrounds. The meal will feature barbecue prepared by Gordy Pierson. Dinner is $20 per plate for adults while kids meals are&15. Those under 3 eat free.
The public is encouraged to attend the evening barbecue, which will also include a silent auction, additional raffles, a 50/50 and other surprises. Proceeds will go to the Southwest Montana Veterans Food Pantry & Services and their work assisting local veterans in need.
