Weird food combinations? We got this.
Conversation has been turning over one of our colleagues, Rob Carroll, and his recent article proclaiming the culinary delight that is a french fry dipped into a milkshake and why it works. For some, it doesn't work any other way. Heck, Walker Hayes gives it homage in his song "Fancy Like".
Okay, he uses a Wendy's Frosty but you get the picture.
Does this combination work for you? Here are a few strange food combinations that we've come across over the years. Combinations that you will either love or hate.
FLUFFERNUTTERS
The Fluffernutter is a thing of beauty. Maybe it's the color combination of the creamy white Jet-Puft Marshmallow Creme and the golden peanut butter. Maybe it's because it's hard to work marshmallow creme into a nutritious sandwich, but we believe that the protein from the peanut butter cancels it out. Whatever the case, the Fluffernutter is definitely a strange combination of flavors and one that is adored by many.
PEANUT BUTTER, LETTUCE AND MAYONNAISE SANDWICH
Okay, I'm not sure if this is something that many have tried because when I bring it up, most people run away screaming. The Peanut Butter, Lettuce and Mayonnaise Sandwich was introduced to me by my father when I was about 4 years old, presumably when my mother was in a different room. Dad also used Miracle Whip, which only adds to the mystery. This I remember clearly after several years of psychotherapy. It's not as bad as it sounds and when you think about it, though. The sandwich, not the therapy. You put peanut butter in celery, don't you? And mayo (or Miracle Whip), by design, is a salad dressing. It really should work. But for a lot of people, it doesn't.
THE BANANA DOG
First off, this is not a picture of the new craze that is the Banana Dog, but it's the first one that popped up and is honestly too cute to not use. A Banana Dog is just what it sounds like, a banana in a hot dog bun. But peanut butter is added to one side of it and jelly to the other. Delicious, simple and genius.
What strange food combinations do you enjoy? I need more material for my next psychotherapy session.
