Why is Air Force Two at Butte’s Bert Mooney Airport?

Any time a large aircraft lands or takes off from Butte's Bert Mooney Airport, it's hard to not be noticed.  Anybody remember a few decades ago when the local airport was serviced daily by the Boeing 727s from the Northwest Airlines Fleet and the early 737s out of the Western Airlines livery?

Even over the weekend at the Wings & Wheels Car and Airplane show, the sight of the WWII-era planes that took flight were hard to miss from anywhere in the valley.

Needless to say, when a giant like the Boeing C-32, a modified version of the 757, comes in for a landing, people are going to take notice.  Especially when the plane has "United States of America" proudly displayed on its fuselage.

That's exactly what onlookers and passers-by are seeing today on the tarmac of Bert Mooney Airport.  While not exactly a surprise, as many local news agencies such as KXLF have been reporting on the temporary airspace restrictions in place, there has been no sighting of Air Force Two, generally the official plane used by the Vice President of the United States until this afternoon.

This leads to the obvious question, why is this plane here and is our Vice President in the Mining City?  What is he doing here?  At the airport perimeter, one unnamed local police officer joked, "you probably know more than I do" when asked if he could answer any questions.
