School Cancelled Friday in Butte Area Schools
In the kids' defense, the mild winter has made snow days where school is cancelled few and far between this school year. This makes our current situation all the more unique, especially for mid March, but here we are. The National Weather Service has issued a severe winter storm warning for our area and out of an abundance of caution, Butte School District #1 is calling off classes for tomorrow as was explained in a recent Facebook post.
Townsquare Media has also received email notices that classes will be cancelled tomorrow in Divide and in Ramsay as well.
While kids may be grinning from ear to ear while making plans for late night movies tonight and an open day tomorrow, the storm may be a bit more eye-opening for adults. The Winter Storm Warning is calling for snow, possibly heavy and wet which can mean bad news for travelers and even worse news for NorthWestern Energy workers as heavy snow can snap trees and bring down power lines. The utility has previously issued advice on how to approach and endure the storm. In addition to the heavy snow, damaging winds are also in the forecast which makes residents particularly leery due to the windstorm last year that blew off roofs, took down trees, damaged buildings and wreaked havoc on local signage.
Will this storm be as bad? Maybe not but now is a good time to make sure that the generator is working and you have a couple days worth of food, water and medicine just in case. Be safe out there!
