There is a new program in Butte-Silver Bow that will be of interest to older homeowners.  A program of Butte-Silver Bow Community Development with a mission of assisting homeowners 50 years of age and older maintain safety, health and independence in their own homes.

You may qualify for this program if you are 50 years of age or older, own and live in your own home in Butte-Silver Bow and have low to moderate income and be current on your mortgage payments.  Services of the program include free home safety assessments along with minor home repairs to support independence.  Services may include the addition of grab bars and handrails as well as lever door handles and rocker light switches, anti-slip stair tape and other improvements as well as connections to community resources.

Low to moderate households are encouraged to apply and the application deadline of Sunday, August 31st is fast approaching.  You can pick up and drop off paper applications at the Office of the Chief Executive or at the Community Development Office, both located at the Butte-Silver Bow Courthouse at 155 W. If selected, you will participate in a phone interview to confirm eligibility, an in-home safety assessment by a licensed occupational therapist, fall prevention education as well as the scheduling of safety modifications and small repair services.  Participants must complete a brief fall screening, be able to safely move about the home during the assessment, attend a fall prevention class (when possible) and participate in a follow-up to help track outcomes and improve services.
