The Montana Tech women's basketball team got off to a fast start against Carroll College Thursday night at Kelvin Sampson Court but strong post play along with a trapping halfcourt defense was too much for the Orediggers to overcome as the Fightin' Saints came away with a 60-48 Frontier Conference victory.

The Orediggers jumped out to an 11-2 lead 4 minutes 20 seconds into the game, but a 7-0 Carroll run would close the gap to 20-17 at the end of the first quarter.  Both teams would start the second quarter cold with the first points coming from Carroll post Jamie Pickens on a pair of free throws with 5:23 showing on the clock.  The Orediggers would take a 28-27 lead into the locker room,

It was clear that in the second half, Carroll was going to go inside with Pickens getting the first 4 points of the half.  The Saints would outscore the Orediggers 17-7 in the 3rd quarter and would keep going to the post in the 4th.  Pickens scored a game-high 19 points and the Saints trapping defense forced the Diggs into 14 turnovers.

With the victory, Carroll won their sixth straight and improve to 14-4 on the year.  Montana Tech was led by Aubrey Rademacher's 14 and falls to 4-9 on the year and 0-3 in Frontier Conference games.  Rademacher was the sole Oredigger in double digits but was followed by McKayla Kloker and Tavia Rooney scoring 8 each while Challis Westwater netted 7.  Rooney led all rebounders with 8, all on the defensive side.  The Orediggers will get little rest as they will be back in action this Saturday afternoon at 2pm against the University of Providence.
