Lewis & Clark Caverns the site of a 12K trail run this weekend
Runners!
There is an Expedition 12K Trail Race set for this Sunday at the Lewis and Clark Caverns outside of Cardwell Montana. The race is a single-track trail with over 2200 feet of vertical gain, and 2180 feet of vertical loss over the 12-kilometer course. The race will start at 9 am.
The trails around Lew and Clark Caverns are typically dry and clear of snow, however, there have been years with some snow and some icy spots. (I was hoping there was a webcam for the caverns on their website to get a gauge on current conditions, but no go.) Runners should be prepared for all types of weather conditions, elevation changes, sharp turns, and some wonderful views.
Your registration includes chip timing, entry into the Lewis and Clark Caverns state park, a branded t shirt, lunch and beverages, and also a chance to win several raffle prizes.
You can register for the race HERE. Once registered, you can pick up your packets at the Bozeman Running Company from 10-5 on Saturday, OR they can be picked up Sunday morning at the trail, starting at 8 am.
There will be two aid stations on the course, one located after the first climb, the second located around mile four. This is a cupless race and it is asked that you help keep the trail clean by packing all trash, GU packets and wrappers with you.
The courses start and finish at the State Park, and with the limited parking, carpooling is encouraged.
Once you cross the finish line enjoy a hot fajita lunch and a social gathering in the campsite area.
You can look at the trail map, and get registration information HERE.
You will already be in the Lewis and Clark Caverns Park so you might as well enjoy! You can read more about the park HERE.
