Have you tried the new HP2 Cafe in Butte? You will not leave hungry.
Anyone who has been to the Hitchin' Post in Melrose knows about their incredible food. From their perfectly-aged steaks, their incredible prime rib and even their selection of sandwiches and breakfasts, the Hitchin' Post really takes pride in the quality of their food. I've been there and I've had the prime rib, the patty melt and the pizza (not at the same sitting) and every time I eat there, it's worth the drive. My friends have commented on how good their food is. Even the drive is nice. Well, the drive just got a lot shorter because as you may have heard, the HP2 Cafe has opened adjacent to Butte Produce and Supply out on Wynne Avenue behind Wal Mart. (For you old timers, Butte Produce is on the north side of the old Safeway warehouse.)
I've heard a lot of buzz about the sandwiches they have so today I checked it out for myself. There is a large, bright counter and prep area and plenty of seating in the dining room.
On the menu is a selection of hot sandwiches like their pastrami sandwich with a full 1/2 pound of house-cured and smoked pastrami with house russian dressing, sauerkraut and swiss on rye bread. There's the "American Thigh" sandwich with marinated chicken thighs, jalapenos, bacon and American cheese and house-made herb ranch. There's the classic "smashburger" that we will discuss shortly. You can build your own sandwich with your choice of turkey, ham, bacon, roast beef, chicken breast and salami on six different types of bread and a literal smorgasbord of veggies, cheeses and condiments. They have salads that would make "The Big Salad" on Seinfeld hide its head in shame. Their side selection include shoe string fries, house macaroni salad, house potato salad and clod Italian pasta salad. Oh, and all of their stuff is made from scratch.
Out of all the choices, today I went with the smashburger. The first thing I noticed is the sheer size of it. It's not just a double burger but it's a HUGE double burger and it's fantastic. It came with fresh lettuce, onions, tomato and lettuce and a mountain of shoe string fries. I am not exaggerating when I say it is one of the best burgers that I have had in Butte, and I have had a lot of burgers. The seasoning was just right and you can just tell when the beef is fresh. It was juicy and cooked to perfection. I can't wait to get another one, but I think I'm going with the pastrami next time.
The HP2 Cafe is open Monday through Friday from 10:30am to 5:30pm and they will have your order ready by calling (406) 490-8745.
