The Southwest Montana Native Community is extending to you a warm welcome and invitation to join them in celebrating their culture and heritage at the Southwest Native Community PowWow which is taking place this Friday and Saturday, September 11th and 12th, at the Butte Civic Center.

The mission of the Southwest Montana Native Community is to support the Native community and surrounding areas by education and empowering our youth and adults on topics ranging from culture, traditions and history to language, art and social gatherings and events.  Their hope is to strengthen families and our community by creating a positive environment where creativity and connections bring together a better way of teaching our youth.

The PowWow is a drug and alcohol-free event with Jack Barton serving as Master of Ceremonies.  The Arena Director for the PowWow is Dan Falcon and the Host Drum is Bad Agency. Here is a list of what's taking place and what you can expect.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

  • 4pm - Doors open/registration
  • 7pm - Grand Entry
  • 7:15pm - All Dancing
  • 10pm - Retire flags

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

MORNING

  • 7:30am - Doors open/registration
  • 8am - 1K and 5K run/walk for suicide awareness and mental health awareness
  • 8:30am - Pancake breakfast

AFTERNOON

  • 11:30am - Doors open/registration
  • 1pm - Grand Entry
  • 1pm - Contest Dancing/All Dancing
  • 4pm - Meal time

EVENING

  • 7pm - Grand Entry
  • 7:30pm - Contest Dancing/All Dancing
  • 10pm - Retire Flags

In addition to the events mentioned above, there will be a 50/50 drawing, various raffles and a silent auction taking place over the course of the event.
