Oredigger Gridders from Butte Recognized During Butte High/Butte Central game
Tuesday evening was certainly a display of heart, courage, athleticism and leadership from Butte High and Butte Central's boys and girls basketball teams during their City Championship games at the Butte Civic Center. The Montana Tech Orediggers are not lost on the quality student-athletes that have come out of the Mining City, particularly their athletes on the gridiron. This past football season the Montana Tech Football Team captured the Frontier Conference Championship and completed their first undefeated regular season in school history. They finished the season with a remarkable 12-1 record and they did this with a large number of Butte natives on the roster. Many of the current Oredigger football players were once basketball players for the Butte High and Butte Central basketball programs as well. These young men were honored at halftime of the boys game:
All of these young men "represent Butte with toughness, pride and grit - values this city has always stood for," according to Athletic Director Matt Stepan.
Also recognized were the coaching staff of the Orediggers including Head Coach Kyle Samson who was recently named NAIA Coach of the Year. Also honored were Assistant Head Coach Doug Schleeman and assistants Montell Allen, Travis Dean, Khalin Anderson, Dan Thatcher, Cliff Mann and Kody Torgerson.
