Butte girls blast Glacier for second straight win
Senior post Laura Rosenleaf's final block of the game may have sent a message. The Butte High Bulldogs are not a team to be written off. Rosenleaf and 8th grader Cadence Graham had 11 points each and senior forward Emmarie Richards added 10 as the Butte High Bulldogs beat Glacier High out of Kalispell 49-35 at Ross J. Richardson Gymnasium at Butte High School.
Richards got the Bulldogs out of the gate early getting her first bucket only seven seconds into the contest. The Wolfpack would answer with a Noah Fincher three-pointer moments later giving Glacier a 3-2 lead. It would be their only lead of the ballgame. Senior forward Brooke Groesbeck was fouled on a shot attempt and would net both free throws. Groesbeck would be fouled on the following possession and hit one of two from the charity stripe giving the Dogs a 5-2 advantage. Graham would enter the game and come out shooting, hitting the first of her 3 three-pointers on the night, putting the Bulldogs up 8-3. Fincher would again answer for Glacier with another from long range cutting the Bulldog lead to 2 but then it was Laura Rosenleaf from the inside getting her first points of the evening. The Bulldogs would lead 10-8 at the end of the first and use the strong inside play of Rosenleaf and Richards' outside touch to extend to a 19-15 halftime advantage.
It was Richards again striking first for the Bulldogs in the second half getting another bucket 20 seconds into the third quarter. Glacier would cut the Bulldog lead to 2 with 3:27 to go in the quarter but after a quick timeout, Butte High would right the ship getting the ball to Rosenleaf on the block and another 2 for the Bulldogs. A Richards steal and layup would put the Bulldogs up 28-22 and Butte High would close out the last 3:27 of the quarter on a 9-2 run and enter the 4th quarter up 33-24. Sophomore guard Brityn Stewart would be the recipient of a nifty pass from Rosenleaf and would convert the bucket and would extend the Butte High lead to 10 with 5:10 to go with a three point field goal. The Dogs would ride the shooting of Graham and the rebounding of Rosenleaf and Richards to a 49-35 victory.
The Bulldogs will look to make it 3 in a row Saturday afternoon, back at Ross Richardson, against Flathead High School.
