Orediggers welcome Chuck Merrifield and Mark Robertson to Athletic Department
The following is a release from the Montana Tech Sports Information Department:
BUTTE, Mont. – Montana Tech Athletics is excited to announce two key additions to its leadership team. Mark Robertson joins the department as the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations, and Chuck Merrifield will be appointed the new Head Track & Field Coach. Robertson began his duties with the university Monday, while Merrifield's tenure with Montana Tech will officially begin on December 1.
Robertson joins Montana Tech after six years as the Sports Information Director at the University of Lynchburg, where he was recognized for his outstanding work in covering and promoting student-athletes in NCAA Division III. Prior to his time at Lynchburg, Robertson spent years as a reporter with several news agencies, including the Great Falls Tribune. His background in both athletics communications and journalism will bring a valuable skill set to Montana Tech.
"We are thrilled to have Mark join our team," said Montana Tech Athletic Director Matt Stepan. "His work at Lynchburg was top-notch, and he has been recognized by NCAA Division III for his dedication to celebrating student-athletes. We are looking forward to Mark bringing that same commitment to our Oredigger athletes as he leads our facilities and operations."
In addition to his role in overseeing the day-to-day management of athletic facilities and gameday operations, Robertson will also support Montana Tech's continued growth and success in promoting its student-athletes on and off the field.
Merrifield brings a wealth of experience to Montana Tech's track & field program after a successful career as Activities Director at Butte High School. A lifelong track & field enthusiast, Merrifield is widely regarded as one of the top coaches in the region, having dedicated much of his life to developing student-athletes in Montana.
"We are incredibly excited to have Chuck leading our young and successful track and field programs," Stepan said. "The Merrifield name is synonymous with track & field in Montana. Chuck's passion for the sport and his years of experience as an administrator will provide great leadership not only to our program but to our entire athletics department."
Montana Tech is confident that these additions to the athletics leadership team will enhance the experience for both student-athletes and fans alike, furthering the university's commitment to excellence both in competition and in the development of young leaders.
