Digger Men Bake St. Mary’s

The Montana Tech mens basketball team showed that they can, indeed, shoot the long ball as the Orediggers went wire-to-wire in a 98-62 nonconference victory over St. Mary's of Canada Thursday afternoon at Kelvin Sampson Court.

Bake on fire in first half

Sophomore guard and Fairfield product Keeley Bake did most of the damage early and often.  Coming off the bench roughly five minutes into the game, Bake netted five treys before the 10:00 mark in helping extend an 11-9 Digger lead to a 29-15 advantage with 10:02 to play in the first half at which point St. Mary's would call for a breather.  But it wasn't just Bake who was on fire.  Guards Emani Scott, Camden LaRance and Bridger Deden would contribute to the Orediggers 52.9% shooting from the three-point line in the first half by which time the Diggs had built a commanding 50-33 lead.  Bake, along with sophomore guard Caleb Bellach would lead the Orediggers in scoring with 15 apiece followed by Camden LaRance and Bridger Deden joining them in double-digits with 11 apiece while freshman forward Hayden Diekhans out of Geraldine would delight the crowd with two emphatic slam dunks.  Sharpshooting St. Mary's guard Caleb Jipp would lead all scorers with 19.

Men and Women back in action today

With the victory, the Oredigger men improve to 12-2 on the young season and will be back in action this afternoon as they take on Keyano University, another Canadian team, at 4pm after the womens contest which will get underway at 2pm.  Admission to todays games is free, so get on your Digger green and get up to the HPER for a great afternoon of basketball.
