Is this the most haunted place in Butte?
Halloween season in Butte always draws attention to some of the reputed haunted houses of the Mining City and there is one that seems to draw the most. Sitting nearly alone in what was once a very active red light district, the historic Dumas Brothel has outlasted them all. In fact, the Dumas was the last on the line to close down, remaining actively open until the 1980s.
Although the working girls may have gone the way of the Anaconda Company, the building itself has reportedly remained very active in the paranormal realm and once you step into it's long hallway you definitely feel something is a little off. The Dumas is reportedly one of the most haunted places in Butte but in all of Montana.
If the main entrance doesn't spook you, just go all the way down until you come to two staircases. The one going downstairs leads to the "cribs" which were frequented by Butte's working class. Legend has it that many violent acts, even murder, happened in the cribs. It is indeed, a spooky place.
Take the stairs to the second floor and you will find a bit more luxury in decoration and furnishings as this was where the Madam held court as well as the higher-priced companions. It is also where the ghost of one still holds court today and is the floor where many sightings have reportedly taken place over the years.
