If there's one thing Butte loves, it's a good ghost story.  Going way back to the mining camp days and tales of the "Centerville Ghost" to today's ghost hunts with Chris Fisk and company, tales of the supernatural have always had a receptive ear in the Mining City.  But where are the most haunted places?  Here are a couple we think are in the running.

THE CABBAGE PATCH

Once heavily populated with the down-and-out with a large criminal element, Butte's original Cabbage Patch has been replaced by the Silver Bow Homes, but a small segment of the old patch remains.  Although it is now on private land it is said to be very active with the spirit of a young girl named "Tess" who does not like men and has been said to have once broken a glass window when present day visitors were being disrespectful.

COPPER KING MANSION

From the decrepit we now go to the ultra-luxurious.  Once home to infamous Copper King W.A.Clark and now a bed and breakfast as well as a popular tour site, some claim the Copper King Mansion is haunted by the spirit of Clark himself.  Book a stay and see if you experience anything supernatural.  If nothing else, it is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in Butte.

BUTTE ARCHIVES

The present-day Archives Building was home to the Butte Fire Department during the warehouse explosion of 1895.  A home that saw most of its' occupants killed in the disaster.  Legend says a shadowy widow can sometimes be seen longingly looking out the second-story window.  Others say the alarms still ring, although the electricity that powers them has long been cut off.

VU VILLA

Now home of the most popular bar on campus and some of the best taco pizza in the world, the Vu Villa is one of Butte's oldest buildings and was once home to the Campana Family and their storefront.  Local legend says that after closing, a lone barstool must be left on the floor for the ghostly inhabitant or the morning crew will arrive to all of the stools thrown off the bar top.

DUMAS BROTHEL

Perhaps Butte's most infamous haunted location, the Dumas has the distinction of being the longest-running brothel in America having been in business from Butte's mining heyday all the way to 1982.  The ghost of a spurned Madam is said to walk the second story while the basement "cribs" have an ominous feel just from walking among them.

OLD ST. JAMES HOSPITAL

Once a state-of-the-art hospital and now a deserted building that has previously been used as apartments and offices, the old St. James Hospital definitely now looks the part of a haunted house.  Former tenants have described unexplained lights and voices among the buildings many empty halls.
