Montana is a popular destination for vacations. With that, it seems like every year it is getting more difficult to find camp sites. Some campgrounds start taking reservations 6 months in advance and a lot of the spots get snatched up quick. So much so that a lot of the campgrounds are viewed as "full" before camping season has even begun. This has spawned an app to help people find campsites when people cancel, you get an alert. This doesn't mean that you can't still camp in Montana, you just may have to work for it.

There is Still "First Come, First Served" in Montana Campgrounds

If you find that campsite reservations are full, there is still a chance that you can "walk up" to a campsite in many campgrounds. Those site are available on a "first come, first served" basis. This is always a gamble. There is a chance that the campground is entirely full. You may have a better chance at finding a "walk up" campsite during the week. Taking your chance on a "walk up" site can be a hassle, especially if you are hauling a trailer.

Plenty of Places to Hike and Camp in Montana

Montana has a lot of places where you can hike and camp. This takes, planning, effort and a lot of hard work. To be honest, I haven't hiked into a campsite in years. My knees and back can't take it anymore. That doesn't mean that it can't be done and it doesn't mean that Montana is full.
