Swing Into Action At The Mariahs Challenge Golf Event
Friday, June 5th is the date set for the annual Mariah's Challenge charity golf tournament and this year's event promises to be a lot of fun. The golf tournament will take place in Anaconda, Montana at the gorgeous Jack Nicklaus-designed Old Works Golf Course and in addition to the world-class layout, the event is one of the primary fundraisers each year for Mariah's Challenge, which just awarded its latest round of college scholarships.
Mariah's Challenge stems from the McCarthy Family who tragically lost their oldest daughter, Mariah, to a drunk driver while walking just a few hundred feet away from her home in Butte. Rather than give in to anger and resentment, Leo McCarthy, Mariah's father, turned the tragedy into one of Butte's most treasured charities--one that gives back to the youth and our community year after year. Leo's promise was and is to award a scholarship towards postsecondary education to any youth who accepts Mariah's Challenge, which is to abstain from alcohol until they reach 21 and to never get into a car with someone who has been drinking. Since 2007, Mariah's Challenge has awarded over a half million dollars in scholarship money. Adults are welcome to accept the challenge as well by promising never to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Friday's golf event is set for a 10am start at Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda. If you are interested in a late registration or making a donation to Mariah's Challenge, please call (406) 490-2739. Thanks for your support and we'll see you Friday on the course!
