It's very difficult to see Butte artists and musicians face challenging times, particularly because Butte artists and musicians are some of the most friendly, outgoing and giving people in Southwest Montana.  When others are in need or facing challenges themselves you will be hard-pressed to find a benefit or gathering that does not have a local band, musician or artist donating their time and talents.

Mark LaFond certainly fits into the category of a local musician who has donated countless hours to benefits and fundraisers but he's a lot more than that.  The last name "LaFond" carries the same weight in Montana circles that the last name "Van Halen" carries in circles worldwide.  Mark and Kevin LaFond have been at the top of the list of drummers and guitarists (for starters) in our area since the late 1980s.  Mark has given not only his time but his incredible friendship to virtually everyone he meets and has taught and inspired countless young drummers and vocalists.

The local music community and many others were shocked earlier this week upon learning that Mark suddenly was forced to undergo major heart surgery and is going to need some major help from the community that he loves, the community that loves him back.  Mark is not only facing some tremendous medical bills but he is going to be unable to work for at least two months.

Needless to say, the music community will be backing him all the way and we will keep you up to speed on whatever benefits and fundraisers are being planned but right now Mark needs some immediate help.

Immediate donations can be made to Mark LaFond at First Montana Bank on Dewey Boulevard, where he has an account.  Additionally, a gofundme page has been established as well as a Venmo account.

As we mentioned, you can rest assured that a benefit will be taking place in the near future.  We'll keep you in the loop.  And Mark, rest easy and recover.  Butte's got your back.
