Butte Civic Center

It's never a dull game when the Dillon Beavers come to town and tonight should bring double the excitement as the Butte High Bulldogs host a girls/boys' doubleheader tonight at the Butte Civic Center.

It's survived a pandemic AND the Dutton clan, yet it kept on growing. And it returns in big form to its original home this weekend. The Butte Civic Center's Winter Bazaar & Tradeshow, one year removed from the Butte Plaza Mall Events Center due to Yellowstone-1923 filming, returns to, well, the Butte Civic Center. And Civic Center Manager Bill Melvin is excited about this year's lineup. "This is going to be one of the biggest years we've ever had," Melvin said.

One of the fastest growing sports in America is Pickleball. Sounds delicious, doesn't it? Well, terrible condiment jokes aside, Pickleball's accelerated growth is due in no small part to the fact that it is a lot of fun, it's very accessible and almost anybody can enjoy the game. And a City Rec Pickleball league is in the planning stages.

With the American Legion baseball regular season coming to a close, Butte sports fans are going to be without baseball for the latter part of the summer. Again. With the exception of whatever in the hell you want to call the Mining City Tommyknockers' season a few years back, we have to go way back to the days of the Copper Kings when talking about August baseball. And the Copper Kings exit was no walk in the park either. Casper, Wyoming, you can kiss my antennae. And by default, you too, Grand Rapids. But this got me to thinking not only about the Tommyknockers and the Copper Kings, but about the number of other franchises not only in baseball but in other sports as well that have come and gone here in the Mining City. Remember the Daredevils? The Butte Irish? Anyone? Anyone?

The Montana Folk Festival is finally here along with the question of "how in the heck do we get there"? The festival is spread out over the northeastern part of Uptown Butte but as we all know, parking and mobility can be an issue. How do we get there and where do we park?

Some of the regions best fighters and MMA athletes will converge on the Butte Civic Center Saturday night for "Fight Kingdom" which will feature a full card of action-packed mixed martial arts bouts.

Coming to the Butte Civic Center on April 29 it is "Fight Kingdom" which will bring mixed martial arts back to what is to be expected to be a receptive Southwest Montana audience.

What goes into planning for a weekend like State AA or for that matter, any state basketball tournament that comes to town?
