It was a little over a year ago that I had a chance to sit down with Tim Montana at the Hangin' 5, one of Tim's favorite local restaurants, where he talked apprehension about some of his upcoming business ventures and career moves.  Tim had recently returned to Butte from Nashville, a place that served more as a base of operation than home for around a decade as he was on the road as much as he was not.  Over that period of time, Tim had experienced success as a performer, recording artist, writer and collaborator, but was yearning to return to his true home of Southwest Montana.  Tim had just secured a partnership with his friend and mentor, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, as owners and operators of the Wise River Club.  Tim was concerned not only about the viability of his new bar/restaurant/hotel as he did not want to squander not only his investment but that of a true rock legend, but adding to his concern, his record label wanted him to take a different direction with his music.  A harder, edgier more honest direction.  They wanted him to make a rock record, something that was a natural fit considering Tim's influences growing up.  Tim was apprehensive but confident.  He talked about what he had in store, a hard rock record, the songs that would become the album "Savage".  He talked about his label's reaction to the songs.  "They seem excited," I seem to remember him saying.

Turns out, the label was right.  Flash-forward to December of 2024 and the album "Savage" has become a hit by any measure.  Behind hits such as the title track and top-tens "Die Today" and "Devil You Know" and support by, again, relentless touring with bands such as Seether, Creed, Halestorm and Skillet and work with legends such as Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains, Tim has found himself in an incredible year-end Top 5.  According to Billboard, Tim was the fifth most-played artist on Mainstream Rock radio in America in 2024.  To give you a scope of the magnitude of this, at number 4 was Pearl Jam.  Yes, Pearl Jam.

2024 was truly a banner year for Tim Montana, but he's not stopping.  He will be the supporting act for Myles Kennedy on Kennedy's "The Art of Letting Go" Tour and big things keep happening at the Wise River Club as well.  We can't wait to see what 2025 has in store.
