27 Girls join Maroons’ 10,000 Shot Club
It is indeed an exciting time for the Butte Central girls basketball program. Although the team is very young, they are beginning to find their late-season rhythm and have their eye on a run at the postseason. How young are the Maroons? Their entire roster lists exactly zero seniors and only three juniors are on the varsity squad. Their nucleus is made up of underclassmen, primarily freshmen and sophomores. There are also five 8th graders competing on the junior varsity squad.
What is setting this program apart is their dedication to the team and their desire to hang another state championship banner to the walls of the Maroon Activities Center. Such goals do not come without mastering the basics and practice of the fundamentals, like simply putting the ball in the hoop. At halftime of last Tuesday's boys' game against East Helena, Coach Quinn Peoples honored 27 BC girls who have put the ball in the hoop 10,000 or more times.
Peoples was joined by assistants Alexandra Roust Hristsco, Hailey Crawford, Amira Bolton and waterboy Ronnie Counts at halfcourt presenting certificates to the members of Butte Central's 10,000 Shots Club. The members are Natalie Osterman, Braelyn Schelin, Kodee Badovinac, Oakley Stajcar, Hudson McGree, Jordyn Sampson, Brooklyn Bliss, Arika Stajcar, Kinley Czehure, Lily Sorensen, Brinley Crawshaw, Rylee Forbes, Lilly Laronde, Mya McGree, Paisley Terron, Blake Smith, Evyn Smith, Ryan Olson, Isla Bengston, Kenzie McQueary and Cendyl Campbell. There were also six Maroons who made over 15,000 shots and they are Luci Fantini, Meika Boyer, Caden Tippett, Evyn Tippett, Harper McGree and Ashley White.
