BC basketball squads set for Western A Divisional Tournament
It is postseason time for the Butte Central High Schools' boys and girls basketball teams with both Maroons teams qualifying for and competing in the Western A Divisional Tournament in Whitefish. The tournament runs Thursday through Saturday with the top 4 boys and girls teams advancing to the State A Tournament next weekend in Billings. Here is a look at what's happening.
Butte Central Girls vs. Bigfork, - Thursday, 10:30AM in Whitefish, MT
After a pair of play-in victories, a blowout at home over Stevensville and an I-can't-believe-they-pulled-it-off win on the road at Corvallis, the Butte Central girls are on their way to the Western A Divisional Tournament in Whitefish as the 4th seed out of the Southwest A. Their reward is a date with the top seed from the Northwest, the Bigfork Valkyries. After dropping 2 of their first 3 games, Bigfork has gone on a 15-game winning streak and come into the contest at 16-2. The Maroons are 5-13 on the season.
Butte Central Boys vs. Columbia Falls - Thursday, 6:30PM
The Butte Central boys have secured the third seed out of the Southwest A and will meet the Northwest's second seed, the Columbia Falls Wildkats. Butte Central and Columbia Falls are no strangers having met in the season's tipoff tournament with Columbia Falls coming out on top 72-65. Butte Central and Columbia Falls also tangled for the third-place trophy at last year's State Tournament here in Butte with the Wildkats winning that one as well, 58-53. This year, the Maroons come into the divisional tournament with an even 9-9 record while Columbia Falls is 15-3 with their losses coming to Northwest A rivals Browning and Ronan and Class B juggernaut Missoula Loyola.
