With November already here, we are only weeks away from the Holidays and one sure sign that Thanksgiving is near is the annual LaVerne Combo Thanksgiving Dinner which is put on every year by the Butte Central students, faculty, staff and volunteers.  This year's dinner will be the 50th and will take place November 15 starting at 5pm in the Butte Central gymnasium.  Although the dinner is primarily for seniors, shut-ins and the disabled, none will be turned away, but reservations are required for planning purposes. Reservations can be made by calling (406) 782-6761.  For shut-ins, deliveries will be made by BC students between 3:30 and 5pm, but again you will need to phone ahead for delivery.

Named for a legendary BC personality

The LaVerne Combo Thanksgiving Dinner is named in honor of the 50-plus year educator whose idea it was for Butte Central to host a community Thanksgiving Dinner all those years ago. The only year missed was during the covid pandemic in 2020 and each year the dinner is prepared, served and delivered by Butte Central students and volunteers.  "It's a way to give back to the community," said Algebra teacher Diane Johnson, who has been with Butte Central since the early 1980s.  Although considerable instruction and supervision in the kitchen is provided by volunteers like Peggy Boyle, it is the students who have made the event such a success the last 49 times out.  Students, and families along with help from many local businesses and organizations have traditionally provided the necessary food and supplies to host the dinner, donations are being accepted and if you would like to make a donation, please call (406)782-6761.
