Butte Rescue Mission asking for your help during “Week of Compassion”
Homelessness and hunger are big issues in Southwest Montana, particularly in Butte and especially this time of year. And in this economy, many homeless and food-insecure are those who never imagined finding themselves in such a situation. Many are families. All are our neighbors.
It is hard to think of these less fortunate and not feel compassion and if you have ever wondered how or where you can help, now is the time and the Butte Rescue Mission is the place. They are asking you to "get involved in changing lives" during the Week of Compassion and Fasting June 3ed through June 7th. Here's a look at what they're doing and how you can help.
MONDAY, JUNE 3RD - BUTTE RESCUE MISSION CAMPUS CLEANUP
There is a lot of work that needs to be done at the grounds of the Rescue Mission including painting, deck sanding, landscaping, flower and grass planting and general maintenance. Work will be taking place from 10am until 4pm
TUESDAY, JUNE 4 - PRODUCE CLEANING AND PREP
Volunteers will be helping the Rescue Mission kitchen staff wash and prep potatoes for future meals. Work will be going on in two sessions, 10am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm. Volunteers can also serve a meal between 5pm and 7pm.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5TH - DONATION SORTING
The BRM was the recipient of donations from a recent clothing and food drive and they are in need of volunteers to help sort, weigh, record and organize them. Work will take place from 10am to 4pm and again volunteers are needed to serve the evening meal from 5pm to 7pm.
THURSDAY, JUNE 6TH AND FRIDAY, JUNE 7TH - MEAL PREP
Help is needed in the kitchen prepping food to be used in future meals. Sessions each day will run from 10am until 1pm and 1pm until 4pm.
SATURDAY, JUNE 8TH - SCAVENGER HUNT AND BLOCK PARTY BBQ
Fun for all ages from 2pm to 3:30pm with a scavenger hunt followed by dinner and fellowship from 4pm to 6pm.
Can you help? Sign up right here. Another great way you can help out is by fasting, but it's not as rigorous as you might be imagining. All they are asking you to do is skip your morning fast-food breakfast or coffee and donate the money you would have spent to the Rescue Mission.
