Digger Football back in National Top Ten
The following is a release from the Montana Tech Sports Information Department:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Following a third-consecutive blowout victory, Montana Tech's football team broke into the top 10 of the latest NAIA top 25 ratings. The Orediggers checked in 10th in the latest poll, announced Monday by the NAIA's national office. It's Montana Tech's highest spot in the ratings since the Diggers were No. 10 in the September 23 iteration of the poll.
The Orediggers (7-2, 4-2 Frontier Conference) blew past league opponent Arizona Christian, 56-24, on the road Saturday, their third-straight win by 30 points or more. Montana Tech was one of four Frontier teams included in the top 25, joined by No. 4 Montana Western, No. 14 Carroll, and No. 16 Southern Oregon. The Diggers return home to celebrate Senior Day this Saturday against MSU-Northern. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Bob Green Field.
Rating Methodology: The rating is rated by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences. Each conference is given one rater for every four schools in the league or division. The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each rater rates the best teams. A team receives 25 points for each first-place vote, 24 for second-place, 23 for third-place and so on through the list. The highest and lowest ratings for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) are removed. The team's rating will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the team appears on. Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered "receiving votes."
