It turns out that the winter storm that knocked down trees on Wednesday also knocked out Montana Tech's game against Briercrest College scheduled for Friday as roads were declared too dangerous for the small Saskatchewan school to use.  What was originally planned as a special "Field Trip" Game for local elementary students, though, may have been made even more special by the cancellation as the Montana Tech Women's Basketball Team hosted an intrasquad scrimmage instead and were able to get more face time with their young fans.

Students from Whittier, Margaret Leary, Kennedy, Emerson, Hillcrest, and West Elementary of Butte and their counterparts from Clancy Elementary were on hand as the Orediggers split their teams into two squads, each squad representing a different set of elementary schools. The teams played four seperate eight-minute games with fun activities for the youngsters during breaks and time outs.

The game was perhaps the loudest game of the year as the youngsters cheered from start to finish while singing an dancing along to such musical favorites as "Baby Shark", "The Macarena" and the "Cha Cha Slide".  Students were treated to complimentary bottled water from Harrington Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Butte and enjoyed free popcorn as well.  Montana Tech Athletic Director Matt Stepan also gave praise to many sponsors and individuals for making the event possible. " We’d like to thank Langlas and Associates for their sponsorship of this fun annual event, along with Harrington Pepsi and Sodexo for providing the snacks for our students today," said Stepan. "We also thank Dig City Supply and Universal Athletics for providing the elementary school t-shirts for our players, and the Montana Tech Foundation for their help in planning today’s event."
