
Oredigger Volleyball, Men’s & Women’s Track and Field unveil conference championship banners
The 2023 Montana Tech Men's & Women's Track and Field team and the 2023 Volleyball team were on hand Thursday evening at Kelvin Sampson Court for the unveiling of the school's two newest championship banners during halftime of the men's basketball team's game against Rocky Mountain College.
The Oredigger Men and Women swept the Frontier Conference Track and Field Championships in Lockwood last year. The women won by a whopping 56-point margin while the men got the title with a much smaller 2-point margin. Both the women's and the men's teams accrued 8 individual event wins and numerous appearances on the podium. Coach Zach Kughn was named Frontier Conference Coach of the Year, Abby Clark won her second Field Athlete of the Year award and Dom Maricelli was named Track Athlete of the Year on the men's side. To cap an amazing year, Oredigger Track and Field garnered four All-American honors, Abby Clark in Pentathalon, Jenna Jordan in Javelin and Edwin Kipainoi in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
The 2023 Women's volleyball team went 24-6 overall with an 8-2 mark in Frontier Conference play, winning the Frontier Conference regular season championship. The Orediggers went on to win two matches at the NAIA National Tournament, finishing the year as the #11 team in the country. The Oredigger program has been int the Top 25 for 21 straight polls dating back to the 2021 season.
Olivia Muir was named the Frontier Conference Player of the Year, Rhys Layton was named Freshman of the Year, Maureen Jessop and Taylor Henley were both named first-team all-conference and Olivia LaBeau was named second-team all-conference. Head Coach Brian Solomon was named the Frontier Conference Coach of the Year. Olivia Muir also garnered third-team All-American honors.
