Oredigger Women get second conference win 64-57 over MSU-Northern
This team could be starting to put things together.
The Montana Tech Orediggers Womens Basketball team won their second Frontier Conference game in a row, and fourth out of their last five overall, downing MSU-Northern 64-57 Thursday night at Kelvin Sampson Court. And they did it in a number of different ways.
The teams would go back and forth in the first quarter where former Townsend Bulldog Tavia Rooney would get 7 of her team-high18 points. The second quarter would see the Diggers go on a 12-4 run early in the quarter to go up by 11 with 4:51 to go in the half. However, the Skylights would answer with a run of their own and the stanza would end with Tech up by a single point, 33-32. Soda Rice would come alive in the third, draining a trey for the Diggers first points of the second half and she would score again after grabbing an offensive rebound with 6 and a half remaining in the quarter. Tech would withstand a barrage of drives by Briaunna McCullough to take a six-point lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, it was Dani Urick scoring, stealing and generally being right where she needed to be. It was her 3/4 court pass to Soda Rice for a score that would put Montana Tech up by 4 with 3:30 to go and give enough breathing room to escape with the seven-point win.
Tavia Rooney had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Soda Rice finished with 10 points. However, one of the most impressive lines on the stat sheet belongs to Dani Urich who got six points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists.
Montana Tech will be on the road this Saturday to face Montana-Western at 5pm in Dillon.
