if somebody tells you that they have the Southwestern A boys basketball conference figured out, they are lying.  We are only a few weeks away from the divisional tournament here in Butte which will send 4 of the conference's 6 teams to the state tournament which will also be here in Butte.  But let's not get ahead of ourselves.  Getting out of the Western A is going to be tough to say the least and 5 of the 6 teams out of the Southwest are capable of making a deep postseason run.

Let's start with the Butte Central Maroons who were said to be in a rebuilding year.  Well, they've rebuilt themselves into the second-ranked team in the state who beat the undefeated, top-ranked Hamilton Broncs at home last Saturday.  But they lost on the road to Dillon earlier in the year, who were later beaten at home by Frenchtown.  And let's not forget about Corvallis.  Although they have been on the losing end of most of their conference games so far, they are more than capable of knocking off any team in the conference.  And who knows about Stevensville.  At tournament time, anything can happen.  This week we will get a good look at not only the boys side of the Southwest A but the girls as well as the Maroons will host doubleheaders this Thursday and Saturday at the Maroon Activities Center as the Broncs come to town.  Both of them.

Thursday - Frenchtown at Butte Central

This is going to be a good one as the Frenchtown Broncs are hot, as we mentioned, coming off a huge win at Dillon last weekend.  Frenchtown is led by future Oredigger Eli Quinn who is the son of former Butte High and Montana Tech standout Mark Quinn.  Eli leads Class A in scoring with an impressive 25.5 points per game average and is third in rebounding with 8.3 per game.  Here is the day's full schedule as both the boys and girls programs will be competing.  The freshmen and JV girls will be playing at the Butte Civic Center with the freshmen at 3pm and the JVs at 4:30. The varsity game will be at 7:30pm at the Maroon Activities Center.  On the boys side all games will be at the Maroon Activities Center with the freshmen at 3pm, the JVs at 4:30 and the varsity game at 6pm.

Saturday - Hamilton at Butte Central

Another full schedule of games is on the slate for Saturday against the Hamilton Broncs.  The Hamilton boys, as you can expect, will be looking to avenge the lone blemish on an otherwise perfect mark this season.  This time it will be the subvarsity boys at the Civic Center with the freshmen playing at 1pm and the JVs at 2:30. The boys varsity game will be at the Maroon Activities Center at 5:30.  The girls games, all at the MAC will start with the freshmen at 1pm, the JVs at 2:30 and the varsity contest at 4pm.

Wrestling

The Butte Central Wrestling Team will be competing at the Western A Divisional Meet in Hamilton on Friday and Saturday.
