This evening the Butte Central Maroons will have their hands full with the Columbia Falls WildKats in the first round of the Western A Divisional Basketball Tournament being played in Whitefish, so it is definitely a bit premature to start talking about the State Tournament which will tip off next Thursday in Billings. But Butte Central Head Coach Brodie Kelly just seems to find a way to get his teams to state tournaments regardless of size, height or even sometimes speed. When they get there, they are always a team to contend with.

It's semifinal Friday at the Western C Divisional Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament at the Butte Civic Center and the matchups have been set after an exciting opening day on Thursday. The semifinals mean, in most cases, one win and you advance to the State Tournament so there is a lot at stake.

The road to the State Tournament in Missoula starts in Butte this Thursday as the Western AA Divisional Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament gets underway, and the Butte High boys fully expect to be one of the four teams advancing to the State AA tournament the following week in Missoula. And with good reason. The Dogs are coming in red-hot, riding a six-game winning streak and winners of 7 of their last 8 games. The Western A boys and girls combined basketball tournament gets underway Thursday morning at the Butte Civic Center and things are going to get a bit testy. For most of the season, Frenchtown, Hamilton, Dillon and Butte Central have been ranked in the state's top 5 and all believe they have what it takes to win the state championship. The issue is, they are all not only in the same division, but they are in the same Southwestern A conference. Most of their combined losses have come to, well, each other. And all four teams will have to fight through the Northwestern A to get back to Butte for State. Never an easy task. It's tournament time. Things are about to get crazy. Here is a look at the seedings and first-round pairings.

With Divisionals still a couple of weeks away, final seedings and pairings are being determined as the final week of Western AA play coming up and very big games on the schedule. This week, the Butte High Bulldogs boys and girls basketball teams will celebrate Senior Parent Night at their final home games on Thursday evening and wrap up their regular seasons on Saturday.

After giving Missoula Sentinel their first loss of the season, the Butte High Boys Basketball team is chomping at the bit to get back on the floor and after a hot start, the Bulldog girls are taking on all-comers. They'll get their chance this Friday and Saturday evenings at the Butte Civic Center as teams from the Flathead Valley come to town.
