Tim Montana rocks Bridgeport, Connecticut on Creed’s “Summer of ’99” Tour
For a guy who was less than an hour away from opening for two bands responsible for a big share of post-grunge 1990s and early 2000s hard rock, Tim Montana was relatively calm. No, make that incredibly calm. After all, no matter the size of the venue or the fame of the bands with whom he will share the stage, it was just another day at the office. "We're the only band who didn't know what day it is or what city we're in," Tim said referring to a comment a tour worker made at the pre-show buffet. Tim's band's relentless touring schedule has seen them on the road this summer with bands like Bush, Skillet, Jerry Cantrell and Motley Crue. Yes, Motley Crue over the weekend. "It (the Motley Crue show) was on Saturday night," Tim noted. Tonight? It's Tonic, who had the most-played song on rock radio in 1996 with their #1 "If You Could Only See" followed by Creed, whose stadium anthems such as "Higher", "My Sacrifice", "My Own Prison" and the Grammy-winning "With Arms Wide Open" made them, arguably, the biggest band in the world.
If this was just another day at the office, Tim came storming in like a young Vice President kicking down the door, but instead of a briefcase he carried a black Fender Telecaster.
Tim commanded the stage, and his band was note-perfect as they kicked off a high-intensity 7-song set with "Get You Some", a rocker that set the stage for the next 30 minutes. Prior to his third tune, "Die Today", a straight-up rocker that is becoming an anthem for those returning from war, Tim declared his gratitude and admiration for Veterans as well as pride in his hometown by bringing onstage fellow Butte native and Navy Veteran Rob O'Neill who was in attendance. Montana and O'Neill have a decades-old relationship and have assisted in each other's success. The crowd was more than welcoming.
Montana wrapped up his set with his first rock top ten, "Devil You Know" which left the pit area literally screaming after a blistering 30 minutes that set the stage for an incredible evening to follow. Tonic and Creed did not disappoint.
Tim and his band will return to Butte Friday, November 22nd for a headlining show at the Mother Lode Theater.
